The keyboard is the newest offering in the range of instruments which children will learn to play at the upcoming Music Camp 2016 to be held at Christ Church, Vineyard Town from July 11 -22.<\/p>\n

The two-week day camp for youngsters aged 6-17, will provide vocal training, as well as instruction on recorders, steel pans, guitars and drums. The sessions which will run from Monday to Friday between 8.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m., will be led by Camp Director and Master Teacher, Mr. Andre Adman, Lecturer at the Edna Manley College for the Visual and Performing Arts. He will be assisted by Miss Stephanie Williams, former Education Officer for Music in the Cayman Islands; as well as, some final year students from the College.<\/p>\n

This is the third year that the Music Camp is being held, and based on registrations so far, the number of participants is expected to surpass the 2014 and 2015 levels, which stood at 18 and 38, respectively.<\/p>\n

The brainchild of the Bishop of Jamaica and The Cayman Islands, The Rt. Rev. Howard Gregory, the Music Camp \u201cis aimed at enriching the music in services across the Diocese and actively engaging youngsters in the worship experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

It has already had a positive impact on the music ministry in several churches, with campers showing greater interest in church activities. At St. Phillip\u2019s Church, Whitfield Town, which had five representatives at the 2014 Music Camp, the experience inspired the formation of The Philippians Steel Orchestra and Performing Group which has been making a name for itself at the congregational and Diocesan levels, as well as in the wider community.<\/p>\n

Applications for the 2016 Music Camp are to be submitted by Friday, June 24. The $10,000 fee for each child covers tuition costs and a daily snack.<\/p>\n
