GUIDELINES FOR PLANNING A MISSION
\n<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

BEFORE THE MISSION<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Form a planning committee.\u00a0 Meet regularly to plan for the mission and assess progress.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Decide on the date and length of the mission, as well as a Theme (preferably short and catchy).\u00a0 Decide on the Preacher(s).\u00a0 Have a budget.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Decide on the type of mission you want i.e. whether a teaching or evangelistic mission.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Decide on the target group i.e. whether it\u2019s for non-churched, lapsed members or general membership etc.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Establish prayer group(s).\u00a0 Meet regularly to pray for the mission \u2013 the Preacher(s), those who will attend, those who will lead, the counsellors etc.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Encourage members to identify those to be invited.\u00a0 Pray for them regularly and invite them to the mission services.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Determine the needs of the mission e.g. PA system?\u00a0 Indoor or open air?\u00a0 Venue?\u00a0 Electricity?\u00a0 Music\/Musicians?\u00a0 Cost?<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Do promotion of the mission \u2013 flyers, posters, letters (to other churches, schools, other institutions, business places etc.), house to house visits, announcements e.g. on \u2018Think On These Things\u2019<\/strong> and via loudspeaker (near the date of the mission).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Assign tasks.\u00a0 Select and brief persons for various responsibilities e.g. Song leader(s), \u2018Welcome Team\u2019 (Ushers) etc.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Select and train counsellors who will help to counsel those who respond during the mission, and who will also do follow-up after the mission.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Procure tracts, booklets etc. for the mission.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • If possible, have hymns and choruses to be used during the mission printed on sheets or projected on to screen.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    DURING THE MISSION\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    • Have counsellors and those involved in the service meet for prayer at least 45 minutes before the start each evening.\u00a0 Bolster the whole event with prayer.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      • Have welcome team\/ushers, song leaders etc. in place and ready to do their work.\u00a0 (You may have persons take turns in leading each night.) <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
          \n
        • Counsellors to record names, addresses and contact numbers of those who make decisions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
            \n
          • If possible, have place where counsellors can meet with those who make decisions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
              \n
            • \u00a0 Do on-going assessment of how things are going each night to determine whether any adjustments\/changes need to be made.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

               <\/p>\n

              AFTER THE MISSION<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

                \n
              • Counsellors and\/or other selected persons to do follow-up work with those who made decisions.\u00a0 If they express a preference for, or association with a particular church, refer them to the priest\/pastor.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                Where there is no preference, invite them, not just to Church, but to Bible Study, Prayer Meeting, and to become involved in an organisation.<\/span><\/p>\n

                  \n
                • Pray with them.<\/span><\/li>\n
                • Walk with them.<\/span><\/li>\n
                • Encourage them.\u00a0 Be a spiritual mentor.<\/span><\/li>\n
