Adam Taylor, in the <strong>Sojourners<\/strong> magazine published this week<br \/>\ncharges that the Movement spawned by the 1973 Declaration has been \u201cstrategically and<br \/>\npolitically co-opted \u2014 not by more conservative evangelical leaders, but by political<br \/>\noperatives from the Republican Party who saw a real opportunity to take over the evangelical<br \/>\nworld by making particular appeals to \u201cconservative social issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The article sets out the original objectives of the Chicago Declaration and points to a new<br \/>\ninitiative to discuss and discern the future of evangelicanism and Christian witness.
