The One True Light

Hymn #300:      Christ is the world’s true light, its Captain of Salvation  (CPWI Hymnal #300)

Verse 1:            Christ is the world’s true light, its Captain of Salvation,

the Daystar clear and bright of every race and nation.

Reflection:  Jesus is described as the Light of the World, and the True Light.  Light is a very powerful metaphor. It weighs nothing, you can see right through it, but yet, you cannot hold it.  Prolonged exposure to light changes the thing on which it shines.

Jesus’ light is transforming and leaves a mark.  It is a mark that multiplies itself throughout our beings, and slowly transforms everything else about us, reflected, in our actions and words.  It is a mark that through us, transforms those around us. Recall that when Moses was on his way down from his mountaintop experience, the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God.

If we are intentional, the Light in us will spread and others will see His Light. One good thing about this Light of Christ is that sharing it does not lessen or reduce its power in any way. If anything, sharing makes it more potent, makes the Light, the giver and the receiver, all stronger. How awesome!

And how awesome is the knowledge that we are, or can be a part of His family that believes in and shares the Light of the Incarnate Word.  Let us therefore not be selfish with His Light, nor hide it under a bushel. Let us so live, that by the Light from our lives, others will see and be drawn to Him through us. Let us be aware of the light of God that is at the heart of life, and, in being aware, be renewed in that light within each of us.

Meditation:  This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine!!!

Prayer:  “One Lord, in one great name unite us all who own thee: cast out our pride and shame that hinder to enthrone thee: the world has waited long, has travailed long in pain; to heal its ancient wrong, come, Prince of Peace, and reign.” (CPWI Hymnal #300)
