SMTP sends Heartfelt Condolences

The Division of Training acknowledges with gratitude and a deep sense of loss, the life and work of the Rt. Revd. and honorable Dr. Alfred C. Reid, retired Bishop of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, who was a pioneering director, tutor and ardent supporter of the Diocesan Supplementary Ministry Training Program (SMTP).

Bishop Reid’s gift of superior knowledge of and conversance with the history of the Anglican Church, in the Caribbean and wider Communion, was unparalleled. As a tutor in two of the major courses in the SMTP… Anglicanism: History and Traditions and The Prayer book: Its use in Public and Private Worship, Bishop Reid’s vast knowledge, coupled with an infectious delight in sharing it, will be irreplaceable.

On behalf of current and past students of the Supplementary Ministry Program and on my own behalf, I wish to extend to his widow Gloria, their children: Randall, Damion and Annette as well as his extended family, our heartfelt condolences. We pray that the rich legacy of his life and ministry within our Diocese and wider province…the fact that he impacted so many lives, in serving our Lord Jesus, will be a source of strength and comfort in the days ahead.

But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God
and no torment will ever touch them… (Wisdom 3:1)

May he rest in peace+ and rise in glory.

Rev. Canon Georgia ‘Grace’ Jervis
