Head of Church Army Jamaica Dies

Sister Phyllis Verona Thomas, the Head of Church Army, Jamaica, died at the University Hospital of the West Indies this morning after ailing for some time.

Sister Phyllis was a graduate of the Wilson Carlisle College of Evangelism and Avery Hill College in London, England, where she earned the Diploma in Evangelism and the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology in 1987. That same year, she was commissioned as a Church Army Officer in the Diocese of Jamaica & The Cayman Islands; and was assigned to the Mandeville Parish Church where she served until 2007.

She was appointed Head of Church Army Jamaica in 2003 and Director of Evangelism in 2007.

The Church Army is the Evangelistic Arm of the Diocese. It supports evangelistic missions across the island, and its Officers also serve as chaplains in schools and hospitals; and as social workers.
