How can I keep my way pure?

Reading: Psalm 119:9-16

Scripture: “With my whole heart I seek you; do not let me stray from your commandments.” (Psalm 119:10)

Reflection: The psalmist lists a method or approach, a set of rules and guidelines designed to help keep the focus on doing the right thing, living in accordance with His statutes. Beautifully and rhythmically expressed, we sense the quiet determination in his words and the seriousness of his intentions.

We too have great intentions. We have spent time reflecting and we seek to walk a path that is new or different from the old. We identify things about ourselves that we want to change, and we too use different approaches to help us achieve and maintain the change we want. We know all the right things to do, but some days are easier than others, some trials are harder to navigate than some others.  It is a constant battle, but we do not face it alone.

God wants to help us through it.  He has said and done so in so many ways.  He has sent the prophets to guide us, His Son to live among us, as the one Great High Priest to lighten our way and wash away our sins. He left His Spirit and we have the Bible!

Are you confident that you are meeting the goals you set for yourself at the beginning of the season and are you satisfied with where you are in your Lenten journey?

As we seek a deeper and closer relationship with God, we each should look at those areas in our lives where we feel a bit wobbly and look at what more we need to do. There is no room for complacency because there is always room for growth.  Despite the stresses of life and more recently the stresses of the pandemic, daily we are able to recognize the hand of God at work in our lives.  We will only see and feel Him if we are truly connected to Him. The days may be dark but when we are close to Him we will feel Him with us even in the darkest of those days.

Meditation: With my whole heart I seek You; do not let me stray from Your commandments.  I treasure Your Word in my heart, so that I may not sin against You.

Prayer: Father of all, may our journey in this season not be for nothing. Amen.
